The Last Man On Earth

So...here we are again. At this point in time, I could probably throw the biggest pity party on Diaryland. Because she doesn't realize how much I love and need her. You know it's true; I've done it before. But I won't. Instead, I'll give you a bedtime story, children. It's one of the first stories I ever wrote:
---------------------------------------
The Last Man On Earth
The last man on earth was a vampire. So, with nothing better to do, the vampire rummaged around in the ruins. Eventually, he found a book on Satanism. So, again, with nothing better to do, he performed some of the rites described in the book...and summoned Satan. At first, the rituals seemed to have failed. But then, in a cloud of sulphur and brimstone, Satan appeared.
"What do you require of me?" the Dark Prince asked, tossing his massive head.
"I require blood," the vampire replied, "and there is no other on this planet now, who may give it."
Lucifer smiled. "You have been a faithful servant, and have sent many souls to Hell. You may have the blessing of drinking blood from My own throat."
The vampire didn't hesitate, but pounced on the Dark Prince. He sank his fangs into Lucifer's throat, and drank long and deep.
When he withdrew, he saw that he had drained all the blood from Satan. All that was left was a pale-red husk.
"Well, what do you know?" the vampire thought. "I've killed Satan. They'd give me a medal for this...if there were anyone left to give medals, that is."
The vampire was saddened that there was no one left to give him a medal. He was saddened that there was no one at all left, but him.
So, he went to a place he had often gone to think. It was a rock which overlooked the ocean. He sat there for quite some time, thinking. As he thought, he looked over the ruin which humanity had left of their world, with their bombs and wars. He was saddened by this...and he began to wonder if there were anything he could do about it.
And so the vampire sat and thought. We would say he sat there for milleniae; to the vampire, it was only hours. And as he sat and thought, he began to feel the power of the blood which now flowed through his veins.
Finally, the sun began to set. It occurred to the vampire, just briefly, that he was watching an ACTUAL SUNSET...and that he had been sitting in the sun for quite some time. Although it was the first sunset HE had seen in what seemed like forever, the vampire realized that it was the last sunset the earth was ever destined to see. He felt sorrow that the earth was sinking below the horizon, just like the sun.
So the vampire, feeling his new power, stood. He spread his arms, and looked out over the ocean. And as the sun set for the very last time, the vampire said:
"Let there be light."
And there was light. And the vampire saw that it was good.
The beasts and plants and men could wait for another day. For now...for today...the light was good enough.
